Happy New Year! A new decade and we all are hoping for a turn around and improvements in all aspects of our lives for 2010 and beyond. As many of you will know, 2009 was a difficult year for us with changes and losses of family members for both Susanne and myself.

With 2009 behind us we are looking at new challenges and hope you will stay with us as we grow through the coming months.

Our home in Taupo was sold at the end of the year and we are still in a "transition" while searching for a new home base to operate from. We will let you know when our new base is a sure thing, for now don't hesitate to contact us for information or orders as we have everything set up to cope with the modern age of "mobile business".

BPA - plastic toxins!

You may have read the article featuring boldly in the Herald last week. This is great to see mainstream media is finally getting their head around some of the things we have been talking about for many years. The presence of BPA(Bisphenol A) in many plastic products that are used widely is a health risk that no-one needs to take.

I won't talk too much about this as we have copies of our old newsletters that many of you would have read a couple of years ago with articles specifically about the dangers associated with BPA.

Lets just keep it simple and know that BPA is very similar to in molecular structure to hormones - in particular the female hormone oestrogen - and for this reason is linked to hormone related diseases such as breast cancer, testicular cancer, reduced sperm count, early puberty in girls etc.

Here is one quote from the article from Ian Shaw, Professor of Toxicology at the University of Canterbury "We know we're getting much more exposure to these chemicals and we know we're getting a greater incidence of these weird effects on sexual development".

The article focused on plastics and of course plastic drinking bottles for all ages are common place in many homes.

H1N1 Virus statistics way off mark.
Do you remember early last year when I suggested the Swine Flu outbreak was "just a little over the top"? Well, it was with interest that I read an article about the H1N1 virus that showed cases in the UK were grossly overstated and in fact for every 20 cases of infection that was reported as the H1N1 virus, only one was actually the H1N1 virus.

So the global figures could well be a little inflated - perhaps to justify the huge expenditure(of your hard earned taxes) on yet another outbreak that never really was.

Perspective - How safe is Aspirin?
To put things in perspective there is this article from NaturalNews. According to this report the deaths associated to use of NSAIDS(non steroidal Anti Inflammatory drugs) such as Aspirin are 400% higher than those related to infection with the H1N1 virus.

Why we don't recommend PARACETAMOL and ASPIRIN.
Many people take paracetamol every day for pain of fevers etc not realising that in fact this is the drug the poison control centres in the US receive the most calls as a result of an overdose from than other drugs. The same problem exists in the England, Australia and New Zealand. Most commonly overdose of paracetamol can lead to acute liver failure. Our concern lays especially with the very common use of Children’s Paracetamol liquids, it has been associated with increased symptoms like asthma and eczema and could of course effect the liver. If you are thinking that aspirin is much safer think again !!!!
Children who where given Aspirin for an viral infection can develop Reyes Syndrome, a serious neurological condition that can cause death. Aspirin is also known to thin the blood and increase the chances of various bleeding disorders. Aspirin use can essentially double the risk of a severe gastrointestinal event, which in most cases can lead to hospitalisation. Smaller doses - such as that taken to reduce heart problems only seem to decrease the risk by a small amount.

Pain and fever are signs the body is struggling with whatever you are throwing at it. It might be the wrong foods you eat , in our experience most people think they are eating a “quite healthy” diet, well, maybe its time for you to listen and take charge of your own body.
