PRL Premier Turmeric

Premier Turmeric - A great anti-inflammatory

Study shows that curcumin can relieve pain and increase mobility in patients with osteoarthritis.  It can also reduce a series of inflammatory markers.

In India and South East Asia turmeric has been used for thousands of years in Ayurveda to support the body through illness. It is prized for its antioxidant properties and it is suggested that it can aid in metal chelation.

Curcumin is derived from the rhizomes of the plant curcumin longa the common name is turmeric.

Indications for use:

The benefits of Curcumin are:
  • It is a natural anti-inflammatory
  • No reported toxicity even at high doses (12,000mg day)
  • Does not damage the digestive mucosa
  • Numerous clinical studies under way for a broad range of   diseases
  • Inhibits NF-kb which has a major role in most diseases (blocking NF-kb can suppress inflammation)
What is NF-kB?
When we talk about inflammation the term NF-kB (nuclear transcription factor kappa beta) comes up and without getting into the complex subject of molecular biology, all we need to understand at this point is that NF-kB has a major role in most diseases and inhibition (blocking) of NF-kB can suppress inflammation. The list of diseases that have been shown to be associated with activation of NF-kB is indeed lengthy - It is more a question of what isn't on the list rather than what is.

Curcumin Inhibits NF-kb
Scientists are excited about curcumin because it has been shown consistently to inhibit NF-kB. A lot of the research into curcumin has focused on cancers. According to cancer researcher Bharat Aggarwal a professor of cancer medicine at the MD Anderson Cancer Centre University of Texas, the incidence of the top four cancers in the U.S. - colon, breast, prostate and lung is as much as ten times lower in India where significant amounts of turmeric are consumed daily. Prof Aggarwal says "we have not found a single cancer on which curcumin does not work". Prof Aggarwal's hypothesis is that most cancers exhibit activated NF-kB which in turn promotes the proliferation and metastasis of tumours. Blocking of NF-kB suppresses the formation of tumours.

Curcumin Side Effects
Reported side effects are uncommon and are generally limited to mild stomach distress. There is some evidence to suggest that turmeric extracts can be toxic to the liver when taken in high doses or for a prolonged period of time. For this reason, turmeric products should be avoided by individuals with liver disease, heavy drinkers, and those who take prescription medications that are hard on the liver. Do not use this supplement if you have gallstones or during pregnancy.
Please refer to your Health Practitioner for further information.

Curcumin Drug Interactions
Turmeric may increase the risk of bleeding or potentiate the effects of warfarin or other blood thinning therapies. If you take this type of medication do not take Curcumin Capsules or Turmeric products without first discussing this with your Health Practitioner.
